• Hello world!

Why We Started Nittany Valley Animal Rescue

For the past year, we’ve been doing the work quietly.

Helping stray and at-risk animals. Coordinating vaccinations and spay/neuter appointments. Supporting humane Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts. Giving animals the time, care, and patience they need to feel safe again. What began as a small effort to help where we could quickly showed us something important — the need in our community is ongoing, and meaningful change requires consistency.

That realization led us to take the next step.

    Making It Official

We created Nittany Valley Animal Rescue to build a sustainable, transparent, and community-focused organization that can grow responsibly over time. Becoming an official nonprofit allows us to better coordinate care, expand spay and neuter access, strengthen partnerships, and ensure that every dollar and every decision is focused on long-term impact.

Our mission is rooted in both compassion and practicality:
Rescue animals when possible, prevent suffering where we can, and focus on solutions that reduce the cycle of overpopulation and neglect.

    What’s Ahead

Looking forward, our efforts will focus on several key areas:

    Expanded Rescue & Rehoming Support
We will continue helping animals in need through foster-based care, veterinary partnerships, and responsible placement into appropriate homes or working environments.

    Spay & Neuter Assistance
Preventing future suffering is one of the most effective tools we have. Our goal is to grow accessible spay and neuter programs that support both owned and free-roaming animals throughout Central Pennsylvania.

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) & Trap and Release Programs
For feral and free-roaming cats and dogs, humane TNR programs stabilize populations, reduce disease, and prevent repeated cycles of kittens and injury. This will remain a core focus of our work.

    Community Partnerships & Education
We believe lasting change happens through collaboration. By working with veterinarians, shelters, volunteers, municipalities, and community members, we aim to build stronger, more humane systems of care.

    Building Something That Lasts

Nittany Valley Animal Rescue isn’t about quick fixes or short-term solutions. It’s about showing up consistently, making thoughtful decisions, and using resources responsibly to help animals today while preventing suffering tomorrow.

This blog will be a place to share updates, progress, challenges, and lessons learned as we grow. We’re grateful to everyone who has supported us so far, and we’re excited for what we can build together.

Thank you for being part of the beginning.
